My Verdict: Alice Dellal for Chanel "Boy" bag ad campaign

Alice Dellal's new Chanel Boy handbag campaign

The highly anticipated Chanel "Boy" handbag ad campaign featuring model, socialite, thrash metal drummer and style icon Alice Dellal (sister to the amazing shoe designer to the stars Charlotte Olympia Dellal) has finally premiered. Here's my verdict on the campaign shot by THE man behind Chanel Mr Karl Lagerfeld...

I love the flirty pose she's made here, and I think the girly lacy skirt brings out her more feminine side which is nice to see as she's renowned for her awesome punky thrash-metal drummer persona. I love the setting and all the lovely guilded Baroque furniture in the background, it works well with the white clothes since the colours contrast well [dark and light]. The Boy bag in this shot is amazing, I think that because it is metallic silver it can be worn with anything at anytime- wear it in the day to dress up an outfit or wear it at night with an LBD or glamorous jumpsuit for a classy yet simple look. The jacket is typical Chanel by sticking to it's tweed routes yet adding the cute feathered details at the end of the sleeves and wearing the long sleeved top underneath to make it even more unique. Her dark and enticing make-up with her smirk makes the picture look more interesting and mysterious like she knows some kind of secret.

She looks undeniably serene and at "peace" ;) with her Boy bag, her fingers look long, beautiful and graceful and her nail polish goes nicely with the wallpaper in the background since they're the same colour so it makes the picture look very out together and those with "the eye" can spot those details and realise just how well Mr Lagerfeld or whoever styled this shoot executed it. The two rips in the tights are so Alice Dellal but I was pleasantly surprised to not see too many rips and studs in the shoot as a whole.

HER. BONE. STRUCTURE. Her face looks magnificent here and the way the hood falls on the left side of her face, really outlines her cheek bones in such a beautiful way. The pose is very strong and the shapes she's made with her body have obviosuly been very carefully thought out since the fill the frame so well. I love the way she has the Boy bag under her grasp- she literally OWNS the bag and this shot in particular.

Final Shot...

LOVE the headpiece here, the pearls make it look classy and the pins spruce the peals themselves up. The way she's handling the Boy bag makes it look as if she'sprotecting herself and the way she's tilted her head forwards makes her look submissive and gentle. I also like how she's supporting herself with her arm. The fishnets on the arms are again very "Alice Dellal" and so are the small rips in the tights. I like the soft curls in her hair and how it's a low ponytail and the bottom part is straight and you really notice them in her hair. The white tablecloth bring out her outfit by making it a monochromatic contrast and making the handbag look striking.

In conclusion...

Most other articles in the web have said how the campaign was just as "punky" as they expected but I think it shows her in a new and softer light but NOT taking away her edge by doing something drastically different with her hair and making her make-up look enigmatic. Mr Lagerfeld's photography is amazing as per usual and whoever chose the setting should be highly commended as it complements the clothes really well. These days, I feel that sometimes we look at the picture and then focus more on the background because they're sometimes too strong for the shoots and they don't compliment the clothes enough, the setting is more like the star of the shot and the model wearing the clothes is "in the background".

Peace and love,
